International Friendship Day
Hacettepe University's Beytepe Campus hosted the “International Friendship Day” event, where 21 countries from various parts of the world—including Mongolia, Peru, India, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Yemen, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Jordan, France, Iraq, Ethiopia, Palestine, Iran, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia—participated by setting up cultural booths.
The event began with an opening speech by Lecturer Dr. Gül Deniz Demirel Aydemir, the Coordinator of International Affairs at Hacettepe University. In her speech, Dr. Aydemir stated:
“We take great pride in promoting global friendship and embracing cultural diversity as a source of strength and inspiration at our university, which hosts students from 86 different countries. Today’s event would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of individuals and institutions to whom we owe a great deal. Therefore, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the esteemed representatives of the embassies and both local and international organizations who are with us here today.”
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sibel Aksu Yıldırım also delivered a speech on the significance of the day, saying:
“Our internationalization policy at Hacettepe University is based on an approach that aims to remove global barriers in academia, promote accessibility, universal inclusivity, and sustainability, while adhering to ethical values. We are making a strong effort to ensure that our internationalization strategies are embraced by all academic and administrative units of our university. I hope International Friendship Day will serve as a platform for forming new friendships and enhancing existing international collaborations for our university.”
The event continued throughout the day, featuring students from various countries who showcased their cultures through traditional clothing, music, dance, and cuisine.
